About 3,000 people in Shanghai have applied for exit-entry documents under new arrangements which make the whole process a lot easier than before. Chinese mainland citizens can now apply for passports and permits for travel to and from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan at any exit-entry administration office, regardless of where their hukou (household registration) was issued. This makes it easier for the great many people who don't live or work in their hometowns.
