Track construction on the second and third phases of Metro Line 13 were completed on Wednesday and its trial operation will commence before the end of the year, local Metro operator announced.

In order to finish construction on time, more than 1,100 workers and 100 machines took part in the project, said Shanghai Shentong Metro Group.

A more advanced track-laying machine was used for the first time on China's mainland, increasing efficiency and safety. While traditional track layers can finish laying 33.9 meters of track a day, the new machine can achieve 50 meters.
