Fudan's archaeology trucks with CT and DNA techs head west for Silk Road secrets 2025-08-03
Shanghai’s Fudan University has rolled out a mobile archaeology lab to explore the ancient secrets buried along Silk Road. The world’s first mobile molecular archaeology lab consist of high-tech vehicles, including a mobile DNA lab, a CT scan truck and a power support van, has already set off toward the Altai Mountains in China’s far west.
The team will travel over 4,000 kilometers, stopping at major archaeological sites like the Xiaohe cemetery, an ancient Bronze Age site, and the 2,000-year-old Turpan tombs to analyze ancient remains using genomics, 3D scanning and imaging technology.
To broaden public engagement, the entire journey will be filmed as both a documentary and a reality-style show. Over the next two months, the mobile labs will act as roving research centers to uncover the rich history of multicultural integration along the Silk Road.
