Malaysian Investors Get Access to China’s Futures Market via Shanghai Bourses 2025-07-29

According to Malaysian law, local investors can only trade overseas derivatives that are listed on exchanges included in the list of Specified Exchanges of Bursa Malaysia Derivatives. The inclusion into this list means that Malaysian investors will now be able to trade products that are listed on the Shanghai Futures Exchange and the Shanghai International Energy Exchange through local brokers.
Malaysia will be the first overseas market for the Shanghai Futures Exchange, and the third for the Shanghai International Energy Exchange, after Hong Kong and Singapore.
“The inclusion of the Shanghai Futures Exchange and the Shanghai International Energy Exchange in Malaysia’s list of Specified Exchanges marks a significant step forward in enhancing the connectivity between the two markets,” said Mohd Saleem, director of the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with both bourses to jointly advance market promotion and product innovation.”
“As the only Chinese-funded overseas intermediary in Malaysia, CGS International Futures Malaysia will apply to become an intermediary of the Shanghai International Energy Exchange and introduce the Chinese market to Malaysian investors,” said Maxwell Ong, the company’s head of securities and leveraged products.
