Mayor meets NYU guests 2015-11-24
SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met William R. Berkley, chair of the board of the Trustees of New York University and Andrew Hamilton, president-designate of NYU on Friday.
Yang said Shanghai should have first-class education since it strives to become a first-class city in the world. NYU-Shanghai is the first China-US joint university with an independent legal person status and the right to confer degrees. After the founding, it operates smoothly and has become a role model of joint-venture universities.
Yang continued that Shanghai is accelerating the construction of an international economy, finance, trade and shipping center as well as a global innovation center, which all require universities including NYU-Shanghai to train more high-caliber talents.
