Peach-growers in the Nanhui area of the city lost between 20 and 30 percent of their annual crop to Typhoon Chan-Hom over the weekend, an industry official said yesterday.

“The huge winds simply blew the fruit off the trees,” said the official, surnamed Huo, from the Pudong New Area Agricultural Commission.

Several small businesses were left counting the cost of Mother Nature’s fury.
