CHINA’S telecom giants yesterday confirmed that they will close their VIP lounges at local airports next month.

This is in a bid to cut marketing expenses in line with the central government’s frugality campaign, they said.

But some observers claimed they were using this as an excuse to free themselves of an expensive burden.
