上海开通定制宠物友好巴士线路   2025-07-16

A custom-designed public bus line has been launched that allows pets on board.

This is the first time pets in Shanghai can legally and comfortably ride a public bus, complete with assigned seats. The route connects some of the city's most popular landmarks and pet-friendly destinations, making it easy for owners and their furry companions to enjoy a day out together.

This pilot program is more than just a novelty – it's part of Shanghai's growing effort to become a pet-friendly city.

Weekend-only service

This special pet-friendly bus service operates only on Saturdays and Sundays. It connects Langxiang Park in Baoshan to the Gate M West Bund Dream Center in Xuhui, with several pet-friendly stops along the way. These include Jing'an IMIX Park, Suhewan MixC World, Xuhui Riverside, Poly Sunny Walk and Longhua Hui.

There are two trips per day in each direction. The first outbound bus leaves at 3pm, and the second at 7pm from Langxiang Park. The return trips depart from the West Bund at 4:50pm and 8:50pm. Travel times and stops are optimized for a relaxed outing or evening stroll. However, due to hot weather or traffic conditions, the timetable may be adjusted – passengers are advised to check the booking app for the latest updates.

Booking a seat

Tickets must be reserved in advance via the "Suishenxing (随申行)" app. Each ticket covers one person and one pet and costs 20 yuan (US$2.79). Reservations for that trip close once you reach the first stop. The bus may offer on-the-spot ticket purchases via QR code if seats remain available.

This reservation system ensures a smooth boarding process and a comfortable experience for both human and animal passengers.

Know before you ride

To ensure safety and cleanliness, the pet bus has specific rules:

Size limit: Only dogs and cats with a shoulder height under 40cm are allowed.

Documents needed:

  • Dog owners must present a valid dog license.
  • Cat owners must show a vaccination certificate.

Health check: A staff member will carry out a microchip check for pets.

Behavior: Dogs must be on a leash or harness and remain under control at all times. Pets must sit on the designated seat mats.

Prohibited breeds: Aggressive or banned dog breeds under Shanghai's regulations will not be allowed.

Pet owners are required to bring diapers, pee pads and waste bags to prevent any mess during the ride.

Onboard support for pets

Each bus is staffed with a trained safety officer who checks documents, monitors pet behavior and offers help if needed. If a pet shows signs of discomfort or motion sickness, such as excessive drooling, the officer will provide motion sickness medication and may recommend that the pet disembark early.

The goal is to make the ride not only fun but also safe and stress-free for every animal on board.

Building a pet-friendly city

This initiative is part of Shanghai's larger push to create a pet-inclusive urban environment.

According to the service provider, the route welcomed over 1,200 passengers and their pets in just 50 days since its launch in late May. Most of the pet riders have been dogs, and the stops have been carefully selected for their pet-friendly surroundings, making them ideal destinations for walks and social outings.

This new service supports the city's effort to develop the pet economy, meet the growing demand for pet-friendly transport and provide modern conveniences for pet-owning families.
