Chinese medical team uses world's first zero-noise DSA in coronary intervention
A Chinese medical team conducted the world's first complex coronary intervention using a zero-noise digital subtraction angiography device made by United Imaging Healthcare under the guidance of the team, marking a breakthrough in developing and using medical imaging equipment in China.
The intervention was completed on Tuesday by a team under Ge Junbo, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chief physician of Zhongshan Hospital, which is affiliated with Fudan University in Shanghai. It used retrograde approach to open the chronic total occluded right coronary artery, with the procedure having extremely high precision requirements.
DSA is an imaging technology that helps examine patients' blood vessels in coronary interventions. Zero-noise DSA means eliminating interfering noises in the image without losing details, making the image clearer and reducing the radiation from the imaging process.
UIH's zero-noise DSA device has improved the spatial resolution of the image by 57 percent and reduced the imaging radiation by 70 percent by optimizing the imaging system, Xiang Jun, head of the X-ray division at the Shanghai-based maker of high-performance advanced medical imaging, radiotherapy equipment, and life science instruments, told Yicai.
The clinical application of zero-noise DSA devices will likely significantly reduce the difficulty of CTO surgery, improving the success rate and saving operating time, Ge noted. No other company in the world has developed such technology yet, he pointed out.
In addition, reducing the radiation from the DSA imaging process can also bring great benefits for doctors and patients, Ge said. Complex coronary procedures usually take a long time, sometimes lasting several hours, and can increase health risks and even cause organ damage to doctors and patients due to being exposed to radiation for too long, he added.
