China Eastern Airlines announced the official establishment of its Harbin base in northeastern Heilongjiang province on January 9, marking the Shanghai-based carrier's efforts in serving the goal of revitalizing Northeast China.

Along with establishing the new base, China Eastern also unveiled on Thursday its headquarters to support the upcoming 2025 Harbin Asian Winter Games, which is scheduled to start in Harbin, the capital of China's northernmost Heilongjiang province on February 7.

Since setting up the business branch in Harbin in 2003, China Eastern currently operates more than 100 flights per day, connecting nine airports in Heilongjiang province to 30 destinations home and abroad.

China Eastern looks to build Harbin into an international aviation hub. The new base is hoped to promote the integrated development of culture, aviation and tourism in Harbin, and drive the vigorous development of the cultural and tourism industry in Heilongjiang.
