Fifteen projects by Shanghai Fudan University in the fields of photovoltaic energy, biomedicine, new materials and artificial intelligence are showcased at the 24th China International Industry Fair (CIIF), which was opened in Shanghai on Tuesday.

One of projects actually included several research results by Ge Junbo, winner of this year's CIIF Craftsman Award for his outstanding contributions to the technological innovation and achievement transformation in the diagnosis and treatment of major cardiovascular diseases.

Ge, who works with Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated with Fudan University in Shanghai, is an academician with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a leading expert in cardiology in the country.

One of the key exhibits among his research results was the "reverse guide wire technique" and a series of auxiliary techniques pioneered by Ge to be used in the intervention treatment for chronic total occlusion (CTO) of coronary artery. His techniques greatly improved the success rate of the surgery and has become a conventional surgical method for CTO intervention treatment.

They also included the characteristic "half-moon phenomenon" in the intravascular ultrasound examination to detect myocardial bridge, a congenital anomaly of the coronary arteries. Such a discovery by Ge increased the detection rate of the disease from less than 5 percent to more than 95 percent.

The discovery has been compiled into the international classic textbooks, and has become the gold standard for the diagnosis of myocardial bridge.

Another blockbuster exhibit by Fudan University is a device that combines photovoltaic technology and energy storage equipment. It is able to meet various needs such as photovoltaic, energy storage and power grid, and achieve the efficient and stable transmission of electric energy while achieving the low-carbon goal.

Sun Yaojie, a leading researcher of the device and a professor from the School of Information Science and Technology of Fudan University, explained that the device overcame the drawbacks of solar power generation, which is highly random, and thus can ensure the stable and controllable power supply for people's daily life and industrial production.

Four categories of products with this technology have been applied so far in more than 200 sites at home and abroad, such as China's Shanghai city and provinces of Shandong and Shaanxi, as well as some regions in the United Kingdom.

Sun won the Innovation Leadership Award at this year's CIIF.
